New Program at Fairhope Public Library

Fairhope Public Library, Anne Hinrichs, AiSquare, Project A.C.T. and CSVR cooperate to start new program in October.

CSVR is happy to announce that through the joint efforts of Cheryl Bradley of the Fairhope Public Library, volunteer Anne Hinrichs, AiSquared, Project A.C.T. (Accessible Computer Training) and Dr. Joe Fontenot of Community Services for Vision Rehabilitation (CSVR) there will be a new educational program for visually impaired computer users.

We thank AiSquared, maker of Zoom Text and other adaptive software, for their generous support and encouragement. We also appreciate software and keyboards obtained through Project A.C.T., a grant program funded by the Alabama Council for Developmental Disabilities.

The program is scheduled to start in October. It will begin with a talk on low vision and the aids and devices available -including computer accessibility features and special computer software .This will be held on Wednesday, October 12 from 1:15 to 2:00 PM in the Giddens Auditorium at Fairhope Public Library.

Following this introductory talk, there will be a computer workshop on accessibility programs by Anne Hinrichs, volunteer computer instructor for the Fairhope Public Library. This will be from 2:30 to 3:30. If you want to go to this program, advance registration is needed. E-mail reference@fairhopelibrary.org or call 251-929-1464.

We are excited about this program, which will be on-going and a great help to the visually impaired of Baldwin County. It will be coordinated with the existing computer education programs at the Fairhope Public Library.

Note:
It is necessary to schedule attendance at the computer lab for the program at 2:30 on the 12th as seating is limited. Dr. Fontenot's talk at 1:15 is in the auditorium and reservations are not required.

Workshops are held regularly at both the Mobile and Fairhope offices. Instructors include Dr Fontenot of CSVR and Mr. Steve Sullivan of the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind. Topics include computer basics as well as the basics of computer screen enlarger/reader software.

You may contact us at 251.476.4744 or visionrehab@bellsouth.net for schedule information or to reserve a seat. Seating is limited and reservations are required.
