Community Services for Vision Rehabilitation 2010 Conference at Orange Beach, AL

Community Services for Vision Rehabilitation has co-sponsored several conferences. Our last educational program, Nov. 4 2010, at Orange Beach, was a well-attended and appreciated event. It was held at the Adult Activities Center, in cooperation with the Orange Beach and Gulf Shores Lions Clubs and Sacred Heart Hospital of Pensacola.

There were 90 attendees, and there were many questions and comments. We appreciate the opportunity to participate with the Sacred Heart Hospital and the Lions Clubs, and especially having Debra Alonso as our moderator. We thank John Myers, M.D. for his excellent talk, and Robin Nelson and Linda Zigler of the Lions Clubs.

The R+R: Retina and Rehabilitation conference was held in March 2008. The event was co-sponsored by the EyeSight Foundation of Alabama and was held at the Marriot Grand Hotel in Point Clear AL.

Speakers at the conference included Cynthia Toth, M.D., of Duke University Eye Center; Dawn DeCarlo, O.D. of University of Alabama at Birmingham; and Linda Goodwin, O.T.R. /L. also of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After the conference concluded, an afternoon sail on Mobile Bay was made available at no charge to participants.

CSVR looks forward to hosting similar conferences in the future. Please check back for further information on upcoming events.

Education

Education of the public, as well as the medical profession, about the impact of vision loss, its increasing frequency and the potential for improvement through the rehabilitative process is one of CSVR's major goals.

We have an on-going series of lectures, and are available for talks regarding vision loss at service clubs, support groups, and to any interested organizations. Educational materials are available at our offices. If you are interested in obtaining a speaker for any group or event, please contact us.
